Description: CBI Health's Kings Physiotherapy Clinic in New Minas is searching for a Psychologist for a contract position.
The Psychologist is responsible for the provision of clinical services for clients referred for psychology services. This includes consultation, evaluation, assessment, diagnoses, interventions, monitoring of progress/outcomes and discharge with individuals, families and/or groups.
The psychologist possesses clinical expertise in the areas of injury management, chronic pain, and depression/anxiety. The psychologist may also provide treatment of children experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges, parenting skills, as well as individual, couple and family-based counselling. The psychologist provides clients with individual and group-based psycho-educational classes in the areas of coping with injury recovery and chronic pain, as well as stress management strategies. The KINGS psychologist collaborates with clients and key stakeholders in the clinic, as well as in employment settings, public health care settings, continuing care facilities, private homes, and schools. The caseload consists of clients whom are self-referred, referred by a physician, third-party payer or public agency.
Qualifications (minimum required)
Formal Education:
  • Masters, doctoral or equivalent graduate degree in psychology from an institution approved by the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology

  • Extensive education, training and supervision in psychology practice (Nova Scotia Psychologists Act, 2000)

  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology required.

  • Membership with the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS) is encouraged.

  • Maintenance of individual professional liability/malpractice insurance is required.

  • Applied Experience:
  • Relevant clinical practice experience required, preferably in an interdisciplinary private clinic setting.

  • Experience working with a variety of third party payers considered an asset (i.e., Workers’ Compensation Board, Blue Cross, etc.).

  • Clinical experience in the assessment and provision of appropriate psychological intervention with a variety of conditions that impact on overall functional abilities, including soft tissue sprains/strains and chronic conditions required.

  • Thorough working knowledge of local public and private health care services, as well as community agencies and resources a definite asset.

  • Previous exposure to the process and terminology used in functional abilities evaluations, as well as job site analyses considered an asset.
    Additional Skills and Abilities:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Ability to work both autonomously, as well as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.

  • Efficiency and responsiveness in provision of required clinical documentation.

  • Demonstrated work ethic, reliability, maturity and flexibility.

  • Caseload management and leadership skills required in this dynamic work setting.
